What is Wood Vinegar?
Wood Vinegar is a naturally derived liquid produced when vapours released during the controlled pyrolysis of clean biomass are cooled and condensed. Also known as pyroligneous acid, it contains a diverse range of naturally occurring organic compounds, including organic acids.
You may also hear the term smoke water. While closely related, they are not always the same. Smoke water is commonly associated with capturing smoke compounds in water, particularly for seed germination, while Wood Vinegar is collected from vapours produced during pyrolysis.
Used as an agricultural biostimulant, Wood Vinegar can support soil biology, plant health and more efficient use of existing inputs.
A Naturally Complex Biostimulant
Unlike a conventional fertiliser, Wood Vinegar is not primarily used to supply nutrients. It contains a naturally complex mix of organic acids and other compounds formed during pyrolysis.
